AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in the March 16 referendum on special purpose, local option sales tax 8.

The sales tax referendum and a bond issue to start projects earlier are the only matters on the ballot.

If they pass it will authorize the continued collection of a 1% sales tax to pay for a $250 million package of capital projects, including funds to jump-start construction of a new James Brown Arena and water park in south Augusta.

To register, voters must fill out a form and get it to the Richmond County Board of Elections office by the close of business Tuesday or register online at registertovote.sos.ga.gov.

Voters will have the opportunity to vote in person starting Monday, Feb. 22, at a single advance voting site, the Linda Beazley Room at Augusta Municipal Building, which will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through March 5. Advance voting will expand to three additional sites March 8.
