Local resident accused of pulling a gun on sheriff’s officers who responded to assist a child welfare social worker pleaded guilty

Augusta, GA – According to the court documents, his name is William Harris and he pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court to reduced charges of aggravated assault and obstruction of an officer.

The judge accepted the negotiated sentence of four years in prison followed by six years on probation.

This unfortunate incident occurred when a social worker with the Department of Family and Children Services called for help in removing a 2-month-old baby from his home.

The child’s mother was upset and, in trying to calm her, the 40-year-old man also became upset and pulled a weapon.

He pointed the gun at an officer.
