AUGUSTA, Ga. – Bond was denied Friday for an Augusta man accused of setting several fires in south Augusta, including burning a church’s cross.

Billy G. Burdette, 42, was arrested April 4 near a Dumpster fire at 2115 Windsor Spring Road. He is also accused of setting fire to a brand new vehicle on display at the Mitsubishi that same night and the cross at the Cokesbury United Methodist Church.

At the time of his arrest, Burdette was on bond in a Sept. 24, 2019, stabbing. On Friday in Richmond County Superior Court, Judge Jesse Stone denied bond.
