A chase started in North Augusta and ended in Augusta after officers pursued a man accused of stealing packs of cigarettes

Augusta, GA – According to the police officials, this unfortunate incident ended approximately at 1:42 p.m. Wednesday near Phillips and Hopkins streets.

His name is Perez Walker and he was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, resisting arrest and failure to stop for blue lights and siren.

The chase began a few minutes earlier after the 37-year-old man was identified by a store clerk in North Augusta as having stolen multiple packs of cigarettes.

He was in the back seat of a vehicle that fled the scene and was quickly stopped at the Circle K at Clifton and Georgia avenues.

He was arrested and placed in custody by Richmond County sheriff’s deputies for North Augusta.
