AUGUSTA, Ga. – A man was convicted of child molestation this week and sentenced Thursday to 19 years in prison.
The Richmond County Superior Court jury convicted Carlos C. Bastain, 40, after a three-day trial. The victim, now 21, testified that Bastain began sexually abusing her when she turned 12. She couldn’t bring herself to tell anyone for several years.
Judge Daniel J. Craig sentenced Bastain to the maximum sentence possible. The law requires a period of probation after any prison term and Craig imposed an additional one-year probation term.
