Rahim Brown, 26, Devonte West, 20, and Ashston Rouse, 23, were charged with murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during a crime in the death of 29-year-old Daytron Merriweather. Brown and West were also charged with aggravated assault.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Budgetel Inn in the 900 block of Fifth Street at 11:12 p.m. Thursday and found two victims with gunshot wounds. Merriweather, of Johnston, S.C, died at University Hospital from his injuries.
According to arrest warrants, all three pointed guns at Merriweather and stole an unknown amount of marijuana before shooting him in the upper torso. During the robbery, Rouse sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso and was taken to AU Medical Center where he was treated.
All three suspects are being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Merriweather’s death was the fourth homicide in Richmond County in 2020.
