AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference announced its plan for a conference basketball schedule on Thursday.

The 16-game slate is set to begin in January and will be released in the coming weeks after being finalized by the PBC Board of Directors.

“There were so many factors to consider when discussing basketball this season,” PBC commissioner David Brunk said in a release. “Our Board took all of those into consideration before making this decision, which we feel strikes the perfect balance between providing a good experience for our student-athletes and dealing with the health, safety and economic realities surrounding this pandemic.”

The plan also allows institutions to schedule up to six out-of-conference games, for a maximum of 22, and up to three exhibitions. The top four teams in the conference will be eligible for the PBC Tournament, which takes place March 6-7. The location of the tournament is to be determined.

Augusta University finished last season 21-8 before its NCAA Tournament trip was cut short when the coronavirus pandemic took hold in early March. The Jags were knocked out of the PBC quarterfinals by Georgia College.

The first day teams can return to practice is Sunday, Nov. 1.
