AUGUSTA, GA- The residents at Azalea Park apartment complex seems that can’t remain at peace. Another fire brought attention to them as the city’s efforts don’t seem to do much for their well-being.
The conditions at the complex need to be improved promptly. This fire took 7 families out of their homes, as the owner didn’t remedy code violations after two deadlines had passed. This was the fourth fire since 2020.
The previous fire on December 8 moved 15 people out of there.
Some of the buildings were unfit for living as the city county’s code enforcement unit found previous fire damage, raw sewage, extensive flooding and water damage, exposed wires, missing fixtures, rodent and insect infestation.
Reportedly, Augusta Commissioner Dennis Williams says commissioners are supposed to be updated on the complex soon.
The Red Cross Augusta Chapter helped those who stayed homeless, finding them housing, clothing, and other necessities.
