GEORGIA— The railroad crossing on Ga. Highway 81 in Hampton will be closed next week while railroad workers conduct a maintenance project.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railroad will have crews performing the work from Monday to Wednesday, March 1-3. While the work is underway, a full closure at the crossing will be installed to ensure the safety of the crew members in the work zone, as well as the efficiency of the project.
A detour route will be installed and signage posted, directing drivers to utilize Old Highway 3 and U.S. 19/Ga. Highway 3 to go around the closure. Only local traffic will be allowed on the stretch of Ga. Highway 81 from U.S. 19/Ga. Highway 3 to the Old Highway 3 intersection.
Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
