AUGUSTA, Ga. – The morning after his 1997 State of the Union address, President Bill Clinton flew to Augusta to speak on the importance of education.

Clinton reiterated many proposals from his national address, including a federal initiative similar to Georgia’s HOPE scholarship.

He also said the visit was only natural.

“Reading your paper this morning,” he said of The Augusta Chronicle, “it would be easier to name the presidents who haven’t come here than the ones that have.”
