Cases spike for second day in Georgia

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Public Health reported1,185 new COVID-19 cases Saturday to bring the total to 866,978. The state reported 34 deathsfor a total of 17,214 since the pandemic began.

Richmond County reporter 43 cases for 19,580 while Columbia County had 22 for 10,916. Burke County reported four for 1,754, McDuffie County  had two for 1,640 and Jefferson County had one for 1,573. All other area counties reported no new cases.

There were no new deaths reported in the Augusta area. The death toll stands at 1,027.

Doctors Hospital of Augusta dropped another in-house patient and has seven, according to spokesman Kaden Jacobs.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported 641 new cases for 474,999 and 13 deaths to reach 8,208. Aiken County had 12 cases for 12,670 and Edgefield County had seven for 2,532. Neither had any additional deaths to remain at 176 and 28 respectively.
