AUGUSTA, Ga. – DNR confirms they have found both bodies of the two missing boaters on Clarks Hill Lake from last weekend.
This morning at approximately 8:02, during a surface search, Georgia Game Wardens located and recovered the body of Eynn Wilson floating in approximately 35 feet of water within the search area.
Both families, connected every step of the way.
“I called [Eynn’s cousin] as soon as I heard. She was the second person that I called, and I asked her, ‘Hey did you guys hear the news? Are you guys okay?’” said Edward “EJ” Kirk’s sister, Latricia Kirk.
Around 4:05 p.m., they say they found the body of EJ Kirk floating in an area near where they found Wilson. The water where they found him was about 30 feet deep.
“The Game Wardens worked tirelessly for several days in the recovery of both victims in order to bring closure to the families,” said Georgia DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon.
Though finding the men is tinged with pain, family ways it brings some peace too.
“This will bring my mom closure. This really will bring my mom closure. That’s all she keeps talking about,” said Kirk.
They tell us another thing will bring closure: a vigil they have planned.
“EJ and Eynn were loved, and they were great men. And were gathering together to honor them. And honor lives, and honor their families,” said EJ’s other sister, LaKesha Johnson.
And as family tries to look toward the future, they can’t help but reflect on the support from the past week.
“I just want to thank everyone, all of the community for their outpouring of support. And love, and how everyone has come together in the efforts to find Eynn and EJ,” said Johnson.
Both bodies were turned over to the county coroner. In the meantime, the two families will hold their vigil Sunday.
